So, I entered the word “sports” into Google Images. I did it for two reasons: A. I figured I would see something weird and B. If it wasn’t weird, maybe the search result would be so perfect, I would experience religious ecstasy like St. Theresa of Avila (or this guy).

What would “sports” look like? Would it be Michael Jordan slamming a dunk on Larry “the Bird” Legend, or perhaps a nameless track and field athlete, sprinting towards the finish line. What about soccer star Ronaldo? He plays sports! Maybe “sports” would be something stupid, like a guy burying his dumb drunk friend in the sand at the beach. Or what if it’s the thing I said earlier; perfect picture/religious ecstasy.

I was wrong on all of those counts! But also, I was right. I found out EXACTLY what a “sports” looks like.

BEHOLD- SPORTS!!!!

That image is from Idaho Senator Mike Crapo’s website. He set up a little space on the web so his visiting constituents could find some sports-related activities to do while visiting DC. That’s sweet of him. Other Mike Crapo fun-facts:

Graduated High School/College/Law School/Hogwarts

Got elected to the Senate

Voted for/against some things

Had prostate cancer

Feels that “increasingly, telecommunications and technology are part of our everyday lives.”

But I digress, let’s return to the search , where it gets even less interesting. Below we see a screen capture of the search- look at the first few images:

For the most part, it’s the same sort of image-lonely sports equipment with no one in sight. This means that in our brains, we have made the connection that sports=gear for sports, OR it means that drawing athletes is hard, and drawing a football is much easier. Either way, with safe search off, how did I not see something naked on the first page? That’s sort of weird, right?

Anyways, my name is Steve and this is my blog. I will try my dammmmmdest to put some interesting things on this site.
